Dear Abby: Teenager's Last Name Change Annoys Grandparents

Chris

DEAR ABBY: Our granddaughter, “Amy,” who participates in 4-H, decided to take her stepfather’s last name while attending the fair. Our son, his father, plays a big role in his life. This is the second year in a row she has done this, and it deeply hurts me and my husband. His mother, stepfather and family think it's great. Our son has no backbone and will not stand up to Amy's mother or back down from the situation.

We tried to speak with Amy. She said she would take her stepfather's last name and that she didn't care how we felt. We like it very much. Her in-laws' name isn't more important than anyone else's, but they think it's a big deal.

After Amy responded the way she did, we told her we would no longer support her at the 4-H fair. She is the impressionable age of 14. My husband and I agree that we will also cut off Amy's birthday and Christmas presents if she wants to treat us that way. We were raised to respect our family, and this is a slap in the face. What should we do? — PROUD OF OUR NAME

DEAR PROUD: You wrote that your son is still an important part of Amy’s life. Has your granddaughter explained why she is determined to do this? Could it be as simple as wanting to use a name that matches the parents who brought her to the event?

You got too involved in all of this. The retaliation by no longer subsidizing Amy's 4-H activities and withholding birthday and Christmas gifts may have been ill-considered and could create a lasting divide that will not be easily repaired. More calm and rational discussions should take place before going nuclear.

Hypno Seeds cannabis genetics: a new era

Chris

The world of cannabis seeds has transformed more rapidly in the last decade than in the previous century. What began as an unpredictable plant found in isolated valleys is now a precisely engineered product, selected for its potency, flavor and climate resilience. In 2025, growers are discovering the most advanced genetics yet, with brands like Hypno Seeds leading the charge toward smarter, stronger, faster-flowering plants. Understanding how we got to this point helps predict what the next generation of cannabis seeds will look like.

From Landrace roots to Designer genetics

The first cannabis crops were based on local varieties. Afghan, Thai and Colombian gold have each adapted to their native environments. These strains carried unique aromas and effects, but they were unstable. Growers have had to deal with unpredictable male/female ratios, long flowering times and inconsistent yields.

Then came hybridization. Breeders began crossing regional strains to create new profiles with higher THC levels and shorter cycles. It was the first step towards modernity cannabis seeds– seeds grown for a specific purpose rather than by chance.

Feminized seeds: putting an end to uncertainties

The beginning of the 2000s marked a turning point with the introduction of feminized seeds. Instead of betting on which plants will produce flowers, growers can finally plant with confidence. Feminization ensured that almost all plants were female, saving space, nutrients and time.

Today, high quality feminized genetics are stable, potent and rich in terpenes. They represent a balance of efficiency and know-how that appeals to both hobbyists and large-scale growers. Feminized seeds have become the global standard for reliable harvests.

Autoflower seeds: the speed revolution

Then came another major breakthrough: autoflowering seeds. Resilient derivative Cannabis ruderalis species, autoflowers reverse the traditional photoperiod rule: they flower automatically after a set number of weeks, regardless of light cycles.

For growers looking for quick, stealth or multiple annual harvests, autoflowers have been a game changer. Early generations sacrificed power for speed, but those days are long gone. Modern autoflowers, like those of Hypnosis seedsconsistently reaches 25-30% THC and matches the flavor and resin production of the best photoperiods.

Autoflowering genetics have made cultivation accessible to everyone, transforming balconies and gardens into micro-cultivation rooms.

The evolution of cannabis varieties: 1980-2026

To appreciate how far cannabis breeding has come and where it's headed, here's a look at its evolution.

Era Typical genetics THC range Growth cycle Focus on reproduction Example of strain
1980s-1990s Local breeds, first hybrids 5 to 15% 14 to 16 weeks External stability, survival Northern Lights
2000s Early feminized × photoperiod hybrids 15 to 20% 10 to 12 weeks Flavor + yield White widow
2010s Rise of American autoflowers and hybrids 18 to 25% 8 to 10 weeks Indoor performances Amnesia Haze Auto
2020-2025 Modern polyhybrids/boutique crosses 25 to 35% 8 to 9 weeks Potency + Terpene Depth Glitter bomb
Scheduled for 2026 Climate Adaptive Genetics 30 to 38% 7 to 8 weeks Smart breeding and resilience Next generation genomic line

The chart shows how cannabis evolved from hardy genetics to laboratory precision. By 2026, breeders will likely focus on AI-assisted breeding, climate-adapted plants, and hyperstable terpene expression, a clear reflection of how quickly science is evolving.

2026 Predictions: Smart Seeds and Functional Terpenes

The next wave of innovation won't just seek higher THC; it will optimize entire factory systems. Breeders are already experimenting with data-driven breeding and predictive modeling to create genetics that adapt to temperature variations, water scarcity and nutrient variability.

Expect to see “smart seeds” with digital lineage tracking and traits chosen for regional performance: cool-climate phenotypes for northern growers, heat-tolerant cultivars for southern states.

Terpenes will also take center stage. Instead of breeding purely for taste, 2026 strains can be adapted for this purpose: stimulating limonene profiles for focus, or myrcene-dominant hybrids for deep rest.

Modern Icons: The Rise of the Glitter Bomb

Few strains capture the spirit of this new era like Glitter Bomb Seeds. This powerhouse combines exotic parentage with 30% THC potential and dazzling resin production, proof that art and science can coexist in a single plant. Its coverage of shimmering trichomes, explosive aroma and balanced effects mark the pinnacle of modern breeding.

For breeders like Hypno Seeds, strains like Glitter Bomb are more than just products. Rather, they are milestones in a continuous evolution towards perfection.

Takeaways

Cannabis cultivation has gone from mystery to mastery. Landrace varieties laid the foundation; feminized seeds brought control; and autoflowers brought speed. Today, a new generation of intelligent, data-driven genetics is redefining what is possible.

For growers, the message is simple: understanding the past gives you the power to choose your future harvest. The evolution of cannabis seeds isn't slowing down – it's accelerating – and 2026 might just be the most innovative year yet.

The Eagles are -425 to win, according to DraftKings.

Here's a recent NFL story via The Associated Press:

NEW YORK (AP) — Russell Wilson fired back at Sean Payton on social media Tuesday, a little less than 48 hours after the Denver Broncos coach attacked the New York Giants backup quarterback who lost his first job to rookie Jaxson Dart after an 0-3 start.

“Classless…but not surprised…” Wilson said on X, formerly Twitter. “I didn't realize you were still bounty hunting over 15 years later through the media.”

Wilson went after Payton, for whom he played an ill-fated season in 2023, by referencing the 2009-11 “Bounty Gate” scandal with the New Orleans Saints. In 2012, the NFL discovered that the team was rewarding players for hitting opponents with the intent to injure them, and Payton was suspended for a year.

Payton said after Denver historic victory 33-32 On Sunday, the Giants “found a little spark with” Dart, who became the starter, and hinted that part of the conversation he had with New York owner John Mara included wanting to play Wilson instead.

“I was talking to John Mara not too long ago and I said, 'We were hoping this change would happen long after our match,'” Payton said.

Wilson joined the Broncos via trade from Seattle in 2022 and signed a five-year, $245 million extension. They went 4-11 in his first season before Denver hired Payton, who was returning to coaching after a stint in broadcasting.

Payton benched Wilson 15 games played, a decision that ensured the QB would not be injured. If Wilson was on the roster on March 17, 2024, his $37 million salary for 2025 would have been guaranteed.

Wilson was released to end the ugly breakup between a veteran coach and a player who had each won the Super Bowl separately.

Now just over a month shy of turning 37, Wilson spent last season with Pittsburgh before signing in free agency with the Giants.
